The Klerigi Group also joins .NYC domain

Last update on April 14, 2016.

We’re all familiar with .com, .net, and .org, but now there’s a new class of generic top-level domains (gTLDs). In one of the biggest expansions of the Internet to date, nearly 2,000 new generic top-level domains have been approved for use. A select number of city, country, and regional domains are a part of this expansion; which includes offering New Yorkers one of the first citywide domains: .nyc On Sept 18th, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer who began advocating loudly for the .nyc domain years ago as a city councilwoman, said she was “delighted” with the domain’s success.  The domain “is a great brand in an even greater city,” she said. It’s an even bigger testament to the domain’s success because — unlike London and Berlin — the Web addresses are open only to New York City residents or businesses or nonprofits based here, she said. “With such cache, .nyc is going to be an even bigger success,” said Brewer. The sign-ups for .nyc are almost evenly divided between individuals and businesses. Forty-eight percent of the signups are individuals, while 52% are businesses.  Supporters say the domain gives a marketing leg-up to anyone who wants to be associated with New York, and helps set people and businesses apart on the cluttered Web. More than 50,000 New Yorkers and Big Apple-based businesses have signed up for the newly launched .nyc Web address, making it the second-most popular city-centered domain in the world.
